Farm Lot 59 is hiring a farmer for our fall season and into 2025. We are seeking a dynamic individual with strong experience in sustainable vegetable, urban forestry, cut flower production and project management to help maintain a highly visible and innovative urban farm in Long Beach, Ca.

The Urban Farmer will be responsible for maintaining the farm, as well as assisting with farm-specific non-production activities such as working with volunteers and public relations. The successful candidate will be a capable, self-starter, willing and excited to maintain a productive urban farm space.

Roles & responsibilities

PRIMARY DUTIES:

Follow and implement the annual plan for farm operations that addresses the production needs and deliverables.

Help run day-to-day operation of the farm to meet benchmarks and goals of the annual plan.

Perform all daily farm-related tasks posted on the work flow board. Including planting, weeding, harvesting, irrigating, and general maintenance.

Track farm operations and data in appropriate binders including, crop plans, pull sheets, germination rate, planting schedule, growth tracking, and soil nutrient management.

Utilize sustainable organic agricultural methods, to include weed and pest management, development of soil structure through composting, and other organic methods.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate should have a strong interest in Regenerative Agriculture, Soil Science, Plant Science, Horticulture or related field.

Pest ID control and management.

Excellent verbal communications skills.

Comfort with speaking and presenting in public on urban agriculture, and other relevant topics.

Mature and professional demeanor with a strong work ethic.

Ability to work independently.

Ability to create and build positive relationships with a wide variety of people and to invite and incorporate feedback.

Ability to work occasional weekends and evening hours during events.

Ability to lift 50 pounds and perform manual farm labor in all weather conditions.

Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting required.

The job site is accessible by public transportation.
