2025 Grants Challenge

Music transcends career, it's a lifestyle.

Pandion Music Foundation is a women-led nonprofit founded by music creators. Pandion’s founders were determined to shift the current industry model from one built around paywalls to an industry focused on accessibility and support for creators of all backgrounds, and identities. To do this, PMF focuses on inclusion, education, community-building spaces, and wellness opportunities free of fees or exclusion through running a weekly workshop program where free, online sessions are led by music industry leaders for independent and emerging artists.

What is your understanding of the issue that you are seeking to address?

In an industry dominated by large corporations and the top 1% of artists, Pandion cultivates a music community that empowers creators with tools to navigate industry challenges and help bring career success. PMF’s free, monthly online workshops bridge gaps in industry knowledge for emerging artists. In a study noting the importance of entrepreneurial education in music careers, graduates reported “a gap between the perceived importance of such [entrepreneurial] skills and their acquisition” (Toscher, 2020). PMF addresses this need with programs ranging from career development to mental health/wellness for musicians. Available for unlimited replays, PMF programs serve as an evergreen music industry library for creators. A workshop participant stated, “I have enjoyed and benefitted from being associated, thanks for the opportunity. I am especially delighted in that it’s NOT a pitch 'for $X per month we will unlock all the secrets to …' It’s simply pure community and that is refreshing.”

Describe the project, program, or initiative this grant will support to address the issue.

PMF addresses this need for real-world industry education tools for creators through free, weekly online workshop programs, which cover themes such as sync licensing, artist authenticity, mental health and wellness for musicians, investment in career development, music supervision, and more. Workshops are hosted every Wednesday for one hour on Zoom, allowing PMF to reach music creators across Los Angeles and around the world looking to deepen their experience in music through community-building, education, and wellness. Workshop participants find numerous benefits not limited only to education, but also in expanding their music communities, building resources, opening doors to new networking opportunities, landing sync license offers, and gaining access to Q&A sessions with high-level artists and industry professionals. Workshops are also accessible via replay, forming a growing digital library of music industry and wellness resources. A central part of Pandion’s mission is to support all musicians regardless of age, background, or identity. PMF believes that every music creator should have access to the tools, resources, education, and community support that help build endurance to keep making music throughout a lifetime despite the challenges.

Describe how Los Angeles County will be different if your work is successful.

Pandion Music Foundation is building a more equitable, connected, and sustainable music ecosystem across Los Angeles County. Over the one-year grant period and beyond, our free, virtual, and replay-accessible workshops will serve a broad and diverse community of music creators, reaching artists in neighborhoods often excluded from industry education and access. We will expand partnerships with area musicians, educators, and community organizations to deepen local impact. Long-term, we aim to scale our programming across more Los Angeles County zip codes by collecting and analyzing participant surveys and location data to identify geographic and demographic gaps. These insights will inform targeted outreach and program design. As artists and creatives across Los Angeles gain skills, wellness tools, and peer networks through our programming, the local creative economy will benefit from a more diverse, empowered, and resilient generation of cultural contributors.
