About this organization

The Department of Angels collaborates with communities affected by the 2025 Los Angeles fires, supporting recovery efforts, advocating for policy solutions, and amplifying the voices of survivors.

We’re a small, growing team. Our work is collaborative, fast-moving, and rooted in the belief that recovery is more than rebuilding structures; it’s about restoring community strength, building resilience, and creating opportunity.

About this job

The Department of Angels seeks a driven and inspiring Creative Producer to join our new, independent nonprofit organization dedicated to ensuring fire-impacted communities in Los Angeles can lead their own recovery—on their terms—with the support, resources, and know-how they need to thrive. In this full-time role, the Creative Producer will sit at the intersection of strategy, storytelling, and execution—equal parts operator and creative. This role is responsible for building the Department of Angels’ digital presence and telling the recovery stories only we can tell, ensuring they break through in the moments and spaces that matter. This is not traditional nonprofit communications, it’s about placing recovery at the center of cultural conversation—making survivor stories and needs visible, urgent, and impossible to ignore.

We’re looking for someone with strong instincts and creative judgment who can anticipate the moment, not just react to it. This person will pair wild creativity with hands-on production, developing an editorial strategy while also rolling up their sleeves to create digital content that moves hearts and minds.

Roles & responsibilities

Owning the editorial calendar: Build and manage a strategic editorial calendar that translates organizational priorities into timely, high-impact content across platforms.

Creating and producing content: Concept, design, and produce multimedia content (e.g., graphics, short-form video, social content, email) with a strong point of view and consistent brand sensibility. Manage freelance creatives and production partners as needed, ensuring quality, consistency, and on-time delivery.

Growing and engaging audiences: Build and nurture engaged audiences across social, email, and other channels—driving interaction, sharing, and sustained attention.

Segmenting and targeting messaging: Tailor content for distinct stakeholder groups (e.g., survivors, policymakers, partners, funders) across platforms.

Measuring and optimizing performance: Track performance metrics (e.g., engagement, reach, conversion, influence) and continuously refine strategy based on data and platform insights.

Amplifying reach: Collaborate with partners, influencers, and content creators to extend reach and impact.

Qualifications

A relevant bachelor's degree (e.g., in communications, journalism, marketing, film/media production, or a related field) with at least 5 years of professional experience in content creation, digital media, or creative production; or a relevant master's degree with at least 3 years of experience.

A strong portfolio demonstrating creative range across formats—including social content, short-form video, graphics, and editorial—with a distinctive point of view and clear brand sensibility.

Proven experience building and managing editorial calendars, content pipelines, and production workflows from concept through delivery.

Demonstrated ability to grow and engage audiences across social media, email, and digital platforms, with fluency in platform-specific strategy and best practices.

Strong instincts for storytelling, cultural relevance, and editorial timing, with the ability to identify and act on moments that matter.

Experience managing freelance creatives, designers, videographers, or production partners, ensuring quality and consistency across outputs.

Proficiency with creative tools (e.g., Canva, CapCut, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar) and familiarity with content management and scheduling platforms.

Strong analytical skills, with experience tracking performance metrics and using data to refine strategy.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messaging for different audiences, including government, civic leaders, and the general public.

Passion for community empowerment and building resilient communities, with the ability to engage effectively—building rapport quickly, navigating sensitive situations with empathy, and capturing content that is respectful and authentic.

Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to simultaneously manage multiple initiatives and deadlines.

Experience in an intense, fast-paced, and mission-driven environment is preferred. Familiarity with disaster recovery or community resilience is a plus.
