About this organization

The Department of Angels collaborates with communities affected by the 2025 Los Angeles fires, supporting recovery efforts, advocating for policy solutions, and amplifying the voices of survivors.

We’re a small, growing team. Our work is collaborative, fast-moving, and rooted in the belief that recovery is more than rebuilding structures; it’s about restoring community strength, building resilience, and creating opportunity.

About this job

The Department of Angels seeks a collaborative, relationship-driven, and strategic Head of Community Partnerships supporting the impacted Eaton Fire community to join our new, independent nonprofit organization dedicated to ensuring fire-impacted communities in Los Angeles can lead their own recovery—on their terms—with the support, resources, and know-how they need to thrive. In this full-time role, the Head of Community Partnerships is responsible for building and sustaining a network of aligned partner organizations, cultivating trust and mutual accountability, and facilitating collective action toward shared recovery goals.

Roles & responsibilities

Community outreach infrastructure: Build, strengthen, and sustain a coordinated community outreach ecosystem that ensures that every fire-impacted community member has access to trusted avenues for support, information, and belonging, including in partnership with community organizations and complementary broadcast tactics toward an ultimate goal of reaching 100% of impacted community members.

Coalition development and relationship stewardship: Identify, engage, and cultivate trusting, long-term relationships with individual organizations and leaders across the recovery ecosystem. Ensure partners feel valued, supported, and positioned as equal stakeholders in advancing community-led recovery.

Facilitating collective action: Convene and facilitate regular coalition meetings and working sessions, creating the conditions for partners to align on shared priorities, exchange knowledge, and take coordinated action.

Information gathering and synthesis: Maintain ongoing dialogue with partner organizations to understand emerging needs, challenges, and opportunities, and share relevant insights with internal team members to inform research, strategy, and advocacy.

Community capacity-building: Work with partners to identify capacity gaps, connect them to resources, and strengthen their ability to serve as strategic advocates for their own recovery goals.

Representation and external relations: Represent the Department of Angels at public meetings and other external engagements to strengthen partnerships and advance coalition goals.

Qualifications

At least 10 years of relevant community organizing, coalition-building, partnership, or network leadership experience, or a relevant bachelor’s degree (e.g., community development, nonprofit management, public affairs) with at least 7 years of relevant experience.

Demonstrated success in convening and facilitating multi-stakeholder coalitions, alliances, or networks, particularly in advocacy, recovery, or resilience contexts.

Strong ability to build trust quickly, navigate complex relationships, and foster collaboration across diverse organizations and perspectives.

Experience translating community needs and priorities into actionable strategies and mobilizing partners to act on shared goals.

Skilled in conflict resolution, group facilitation, and consensus-building in dynamic, high-stakes environments.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to connect with diverse audiences and synthesize information into clear, actionable messages.

Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and stakeholders simultaneously.

Passion for community empowerment, equity, and ensuring affected communities have a leading voice in their own recovery.

Familiarity with post-disaster recovery, resilience, or social justice organizing preferred.

Connection or familiarity with the Altadena community strongly preferred.
